Hartebeesport Dam - Part 4

HAVE A WONDERFUL AND HAPPY 4TH OF JULY MY FRIENDS!!

Hartebeespoort Dam is situated about half and hours drive from where I live and is nestled amongst some medium-sized mountains. The area is lush and green for most of the year with only he grass turning brown in the winter months. Some of the houses there are copies of the old Dutch houses which were put up by or early settlers.
There is a small complex where you can get a bite to eat or drink and has a small souvenier shop for the tourists.
The dam itself is fairly large and man-made, with many water sports on it from fishing, various kinds of boating and sailing, skiing etc.
Across the narrow part near the dam wall which has a hyrdo plant in it to generate elctricity, these houses can be seen but definitely not afforded, by most of our normal mortals.
Of course the area is full of flowers which in turn are full of bugs like this ladybird/bug larvae.
Spiders are everywhere even though most of the species found there are tiny.
It is a good place to go and relax. There is a houseboat which takes you out for lunchtime cruises and a small but lovely little zoo as well. The area has some nice hiking, cycling and horse riding trails so is very popular on a Sunday. The small restuarant is always full of people who come there on moterbikes for their 'breakfast-run'. For the birding enthusiast, it is a paradise.

By the way, the lizzard you just posted on your other blog has a beautiful pattern on his skin - but he also looks like a meanie!
I love hippos - one of these days I'll paint them.
Hope you got your PC back?

Hello Jeanette. It is a lovely place to go on a Sunday if I want to get out for a while.

I was lucky to get the two shots of the lizard as he was there and gone in a flash.

A very good friend of mine who lives in N Carolina used to paint wildlife pictures and she was excellent at it. That was how I met her originally and it was she who started me blogging along with Mary.

I eventually got my PC back late yesterday and by the time I had put back the programs and downloaded my e-mails (15 of them) it was too late to answer yours so I will do it on Monday. I did read it though. Sorry for taking so long about it.

Have a great day celebrating. :)

So this is where you run away to, a good choice. The mountains are superb especially when surrounding a lake, even if human made.

Love the "slides" you shared on the other.

Sorry to hear about PC problems. Enjoy the rest of the weekend.

What a great short getaway spot. Very nice!

Hello Gaelyn. Caught me out have you!! Now I cannot disappear on you as you know where to find me. :)

It is such a pity these slides have lost some of their color and I cannot use them anymore as I have over 4000. Some of them are not too bad after a bit of manipulation.

It is the PC at work which got a virus and so I took the one from home there to work on. This did cause a bit of chaos as I could not get to do my coments as I usually do. Thank goodness it is all sorted out now.

It sure is TB. :)

What a wonderful place! Love the rocky mountains!

As to your questions:
- the 'white' waterfall has been created just from the water flowing over the mountain.
- I have no idea how old they are.
- And yes, they are still active! :-)

Hello Jose. It is not too far from JHB and PTA so is very busy over a weekend.

Thanks for the info on the waterfall. It is an amazing place and your pictures are fantastic.

My goodness this sounds like it's right up my alley. I'd love to go there, if nothing else to see the scenery and take pictures.
Hope you are having a great week-end.

Hello Backy. Well come on over and I will take you there. :) It is so cold here I am going to stay bundled up inside for the weekend. Hope you have a great one too. :)

I've been there before, but that was so long ago~! Has it changed? I love that purple flower- is it a morning glory? I was at the Botanical Garden yesterday :O)

Hello Sreddy. Not much has changed at the dam itself but it is now so built up with houses and shopping centres in the area, you will not recognise it anymore. I like going to the Gardens. The aloes should be in bloom now.

Joan: That looks like such a neat place. I like the rock outcrop.

Hello Tom. There is good fishing there too so you would definitely like it. :)

I would love to add some birds to my life list visiting a beautiful place like that Joan...

This is a great place for it Michelle. At one stage my list was up to nearly 300 birds, but I stopped counting. :)

Looks like a beautiful place to go in the summertime. Love the flowers and bugs. I'm sure you took lots of photos :-)

Hello Mary. It is a place I go too often as it is less than an hours drive from me. How did you guess I took a lot of pictures? :)
