Hartebeesport Dam - Part 4

It has a combination of of a zoo and reptile park. This is a Caracal which looks very much like your lynx with its tufted ears and is about the same size.
A Serval has extremely long legs and can jump 6 feet in height. It lives off birds, rodents and whatever else comes to hand.
The tortoise here have laid an egg which I is probably not fertile or else they would have buried it.
One of the more beautiful snakes they have is this Burmese Python.
The Black-backed Jackal is one of two species found here.
A sunglazer lizard has lights which it can bask under when there is no sunlight and acts as a temperature control for him.
The Suricats or Meerkats are a joy to watch......
especially these youngsters which were romping around playing. They have so much energy and never seem to be still for a minute.

Wow, beautiful animals there. The big cats and jackal look so alert. I love the spiny Sunglazer lizard, though I wouldn't want to hold it. Very sweet how that Suricat posed for you. :)

Love the wildlfe shots, even in a zoo. The caracul's head looks much like our lynx but there bodies are stockier and the feet are huge for walking on snow. The tail on the Sunglazer looks dangerous. The Pythons are colorful but I'm not much for snakes. I too like the Meerkats best.

Thanks Diane. It is a small place but very enjoyable to go to.

Hello Gaelyn. I think it is maybe the snow you have which makes them get thicker coats than here.

Aqui no Brasil, no estado do Paraná,temos uma onça Sussuarana, que é bem semelhante ao Puma.

Olá Bernardi. Obrigado por visitar o meu blog.

É uma pena estes belos animais não são encontrados em tantos países mais.

Hi Joan
I have been to this zoo on one occasion and if I remember corresctly the dam is on the way to Sun City and you have to travel through a tunnel to cross the dam wall, one way traffic, cut into the huge hill.

I do remember it not being in such good condition when I was there but as I say this was a long time ago so it is nice to see the animals happy and healthy, hopefully I can see it again in person sometime soon.

Hello Lori. Yes that is the one. Many years ago I used to know the owner of it. A lot of these animals are used in TV commercials too.
