Bushveld Purple Tip (Colotis ione)

Family Pieridae Pierinae

A biggish butterfly with a wingspan of 4.5 – 5cm.
The males and females differ very much in colour as can be seen here with the male being almost all white and having just the tips of his wings purple.
Found from Gauteng northwards and along the eastern coast.
They are found the year round in warmer areas.

That touch of purple is superb.
