Outdoor Show - Part 3

One of the game lodges had these two cute white lion cubs on display. Both are about a year old and the one slept quite peacefully in the corner of his enclosure.
The other was wide awake but not paying much attention to all the fuss us humans were making of him.
Furniture made from the wood of old railway sleepers is very popular here as we like the rugged look of it. When polished is extremely beautiful and because of its thickness, very durable. This coffee table caught my eye. Just look at the wonderful colors in it!!
I can just imagine this beautiful fireplace in a home with a cozy fire in it. Above on the wall, a wooden frams was made around a piece of slate and animals carved into it. It was really stunning. On the left of it, a hand made clock made out of wood and and old rotary saw blade. What a novel idea!!
There was the most fantastic kitchen on display made out of sleepers, complete with chairs and tables. This could be passed down through the family for the next 100 generations without ever wearing out or needing to be replaced.
Best of all was this bar!! I think a lot of good parties could be held areound this. The uprights holding the roof was carved with the heads of the various animals. Simply beautiful.
I think of all the displays, this was my favorite. It is a huge tent with sides which can be closed. It consisted of a huge and most luxurious bedroom with the bathroom behind a partition. What elegance!! I could easily stay in one of these for the rest of my life. There was an open verander in front with a small fountain and some easy garden furniture. This is my idea of living in style.
Of all the camping equipment on display, this folding bed was put on my list for purchasing. It is SO comfortable!!

  4. I would not ming one of them Philip but the price tag was R999.00. Guess I will stick to what I have. My little mattress and I have traveled many miles together and I guess we both still have a bit of life left in us. LOL!!

  5. If I had known you were interested, I would have let you know Philip. I will keep it in mind when I see something else you might be interested in.

I was thinking of going to the show. Are you going? Maybe we can meet up? Let me know.

  6. LOL!! I have to agree with you Anne. They did not make them like this a few years ago, just the old piece of canvas over a frame and you felt it each time you moved. :)

  10. Wow, this is some different kind of outdoor show. I'd want to pet the big white kitties, take home that unusual grained coffee table and put it in the new tent house along with a king-size version of the folding bed. Now that's camping in comfort. How come we didn't camp this way? LOL

  11. Oh boy! Now you're hitting me where I LIVE... camping gear. I am drooling over that bed and the tent looks amazing! This, coming from the girl who just finished living in a tent for six weeks. LOL!

  14. Those are cute kitties Sandra. :) Many years ago when they were building the railways, they chopped down some of our most beautiful trees to make those. No wonder they are so popular today.

  15. Much better than what I have been used to Ray. When I say "roughing it" I dont include any of this, mostly it is a thin mattress on the ground under the mosquito net hung in a tree. :)

  16. It is stunning isn't it Wendy? My jaw had to be put back into place too when I saw it. :)

White lions used to be extremely scarce but now there are a lot of people breeding them.

  17. Sorry Gaelyn but that tent would not fit in my car. LOL!! I could live forever in one of those.

  18. I could live in a tent for the rest of my life if necessary Krista. It is the kind of lifestyle I really enjoy.

I hope that list you are making is of the things you want to see when you come and visit? :)

  19. It does for me too Frank. Maybe I have lived too much of a spartan life in the bush for too many years, but now I do not like or want anything fancy. :)

  20. Me too Mike!! :) I have always loved wood more than anything else. Some of it, like this, is so beautiful.

It was a good day there. Nice to get out a bit and see the other side of things and no bugs. :)

  21. These are absolutely cute! I've only seen white lions in photos and movies...
Fantastic wood patterns, especially in the first pic.

  22. The first one was found in Timbivati where Mala Mala is Jose and since then, a lot have been bred. I am sure you know they are not albinos but the coloring comes from a gene.

    I love wood!!

  23. Railway sleepers. Humm, we don't hear that around here very much. What beautiful wood. On one of our walks on an old abandoned rail line we saw evidence of concrete sleepers from many years ago.I once saw some beautiful wooden walking sticks made by hand from old fence posts from broken down or abandoned farms.
Beautiful pictures Joan. I love the white lashes on that Lion.

  24. They used to use wood before they started with the concrete Becky. This wood is so durable and has lasted for so many years. I am sure that the furniture made out of it would last at least a hundred years, id not more.

What a good idea to make walking sticks out of the fence posts. Sounds like a brilliant way of recycling.

  25. The kitties are adorable and so unusual. Like everyone else I love the furniture...so beautiful and rugged looking. I love that framed piece. That cot looks more comfortable then some beds I've slept in.

  26. It was wonderful to see what can be made out of this wood Mary. People are so artistic sometimes and come up with great ideas.

  27. I want a malt liquor..ice cold...full bodied...and really, would love a cigarette although it's been nine months now since I've had the pleasure...Love that bar.

  28. I will join you with a whiskey on the rocks Sandy. Good for you for giving it up. I dont even bother to try as I enjoy my cigarettes. :)

    ReplyDelete
  29. ahhh, then can I sneak over and have a cigarette with you? Don't tell my kids.

I walk by a smoker and want to follow on their heels inhaling their air.

    ReplyDelete
  30. LOL!! I know the feeling Sandy. I have stopped and started a few times and like the smell of it when not smoking. Dont worry, your secret will be safe with me. :)
