Biodiversity Research and Education (Insects and plants)

April 2006 – Present (7 years)

The project consists of :

1. Running a website and educational blog for the identification and education of all our fauna and flora so that the ordinary layman who has no knowledge of scientific names can go and find what they are looking for. Everything is listed with both the common and scientific names so that not only the person on the street but also students and scientific people can use it. Things are listed according to scientific names in order to have all of the same species together for easy finding. As far as possible, I am slowly collecting pictures of both the top and underside of wings, differences in seasonal changes, eggs/pupa/larvae/immature of all species and when it comes to things like trees, the bark, leaves, flowers and fruit of it. I collect as much detail as possible. All of this information is put onto my identification website.

2. Collection of data as ALL distribution maps available are way out of date and with the easy of transport, I am find things in places the experts tell me should not be. This alone is a massive undertaking and I am hoping that by sharing this information, I can contribute in some small way to what the experts already have but all of them do not have the time to do the field work for.

3. So many millions of insects have not even been discovered and/or named and I am hoping I can add some new specimens to our literature.

Sponsorship is needed for this project please for fuel, accommodation and travel to enable me to cover greater areas of the country collecting data. US$10000 per year.
