Lily Weevil (Brachycerus labrusca)

Family Curculionidae
A large, flightless beetle, about 2cm in length and are fairly common in the Pretoria and Pilansberg areas although I do not know where else in SA they are found as there is no distribution map available.
Not much information can be found about them except that they feed on certain lilies.

Lily Weevil Brachycerus labrusca Curculionidae

Small and cute!
As you can see in the picture above, this is quite a small specimen but I have seen them at about 1 1/2 inches in body length.

Not very pretty, but kind of cute.

Agave Weevil (Scyphophorus acupunctatus) Curculionidae

I can see our first rains have fallen as we are starting to get some insects around again.
This tiny little weevil was crawling around probably looking for its first meal.
This should give you an indication of its size.
Black is such a difficult color to photograph!!

Lily Weevil (Brachycerus labrusca) Curculionidae

This looks like something out of Star Wars.
It is rather large, about 1.5 inches in length.
I can just imagine what size they were a couple of million years ago and glad I did not come across them then. :)
